I work with a student who I will call "Tracy" to respect her privacy. She is a lovely young student in grade four. Tracy is very social and gets along well with others. She is very motivated and enjoys doing work. Tracy struggles in most academic areas, but specifically reading and writing. She moved here a couple years ago from another country and English is not her first language. She can communicate very well in English, but her vocabulary is not large. This creates difficulty in understanding instructions, reading comprehension, and written output.
Below I have listed some possible tools for Tracy to add to her Toolbelt. These tools will help her improve her understanding of the English language and therefore improve her reading and writing skills.
